HOTEL INFORMATION

Please Note:
  • There is no "official" NAFIPS08 hotel. The list below is provided by the committee for the information of NAFIPS members who may wish to find rooms that are not too costly; the hotels listed are not necessarily "recommended" over other hotels. There are more expensive hotels located very close to the conference site.

  • If you are interested in the hotels listed below, please make your reservation immediately since there are only a limited number of rooms at the listed rates. May is one of the busiest months for hotels in NYC and rooms in NYC under $250/night are almost impossible to find.

  • The rooms listed here have been personally checked out, but we have not actually stayed in these hotels. They are, for the most part, basic, but clean with air conditioning and television. All rooms have private bath unless otherwise specified.

  • If you have need of handicap or wheelchair access, please make sure to ask the hotel when you make your reservation.

  • "Walking" distances noted below are actually driving distances (from mapquest), so true walking distances may be a little less.

  • During busy times (rush hour) express (limited) buses run every five minutes or so, but traffic can make keeping to a schedule very difficult. A ride up 1st Avenue from 42nd Street to 67th Street can take five minutes, or it can take a lot longer. The point: allow plenty of time for weekday bus trips. Local buses can also be found at the same stops and can certainly be used, they just take longer. CITY BUSES ACCEPT ONLY EXACT CHANGE ($2 IN COINS) OR METROCARDS - THE DRIVERS DO NOT MAKE CHANGE AND DO NOT SELL METROCARDS. Metro cards can be purchased at most subway stations and at many convenience stores (usually advertised in store window).

  • Streets in mid-town go north to south, with the street numbers getting higher going northward. Avenues in mid-town are one-way; 1st Avenue is a northbound avenue and 2nd Avenue is southbound. This means that if your hotel is south of the conference (as most of the hotels listed here are), you will be taking the 1st Avenue M15 bus TO the conference and the 2nd Avenue M15 bus BACK to your hotel.

  • York Ave. is on the far east side of Manhattan, so buses are more convenient than the subway. Even so, at certain times of the day the subway (+ walking) will get you there much faster. This is especially true if the bus is cross-town (east to west or west to east).

Rooms are small, but they appear comfortable and do have air conditioning.

Distance to conference site:
  • 1.2 miles walking distance, so a very short and pleasant walk
  • taxi would be no more than $5 or so
  • no convenient subway, but one could take the M50 or M27 bus from the corner of 2nd Ave. and 50th St. (virtually in front of the hotel) to the end (United Nations), transfer to the M15 limited to 67th Street (be sure to ask the driver of the first bus for a transfer if you're paying cash), and walk east on 66th to York Ave; this cumbersome option is probably not worth the difference between the taxi fare and the bus fare, but it could be fun if you are in the mood to ride buses
